In a remarkable display, the Miami Heat triumphed over the Chicago Bulls with a score of 143-107 in Chicago on Friday. This victory enhances Miami’s position to 2-1 in East Group C of the NBA Cup, maintaining their pursuit of the Milwaukee Bucks, who lead the group at 2-0. Conversely, the Bulls now sit at 1-2 in their Cup run, continuing to struggle on the court.
Kel'el Ware was instrumental in the Heat’s success, delivering a standout performance that included 20 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double. His contribution was vital early on, as he helped Miami establish a commanding lead. Ware's first-half scoring tally of 12 points on a 5-for-9 shooting performance showcased his efficiency.
Norman Powell's impact was equally significant. Despite a brief exit due to a groin strain in the first quarter, he quickly returned and finished the half with 15 points, totaling 19 for the game. His dynamic plays, especially in the second quarter, contributed to Miami’s offensive momentum, making their offense appear fast and assertive.
The Heat’s solid team play was a crucial factor in their decisive victory, demonstrating their prowess by leading by as much as 41 points. Their ability to collect second-chance points was evident, aided by a 14-rebound advantage, leading to an overall performance enhancement. Bam Adebayo further contributed with 18 points, maintaining his consistent form this season, and the team has now garnered three straight victories.
Keshad Johnson chipped in crucially with 14 points and a career-best 11 rebounds. Miami’s bench also excelled, with both Pelle Larsson and Davion Mitchell scoring 16 points each. Dru Smith contributed 12 points while Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 10, demonstrating the team’s balanced offense.
For Chicago, Ayo Dosunmu was the high scorer with 23 points, while Josh Giddey approached a triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. Despite this, Chicago suffered from issues on both ends of the floor, shooting just 41.1% overall and making only 12 of 43 from beyond the arc, along with committing 18 turnovers that led to easy opportunities for Miami.
Adding to their woes, injuries sidelined Matas Buzelis, Isaac Okoro, and Dalen Terry during the game, and Kevin Huerter was ejected in the third quarter. The Bulls have now recorded six losses in their last eight games, highlighting their significant challenges.
The Heat played without Nikola Jovic and Andrew Wiggins due to hip injuries, while the Bulls missed Coby White as part of injury management. Nevertheless, Miami displayed excellent teamwork and confidence, contrasting sharply with Chicago's ongoing struggle for rhythm.
This authoritative win fortifies the Heat’s standing in the NBA Cup, showcasing their improved shooting, effective rebounding, and diverse scoring. The Bulls, on the other hand, must confront their defensive lapses and turnover issues to recover in future competitions.
The game was a testimony to the Heat’s collective strength and the Bulls’ persistent inconsistency within the Cup.
