Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is hopeful of making a swift return to action after his recent hand surgery. The injury, sustained during a clash with the Las Vegas Raiders’ Jeremy Chinn, required a plate and screws to be inserted, yet Herbert is focused on starting in Monday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 27-year-old sustained his injury early during the Chargers' 31-14 victory over the Raiders. After momentarily exiting the game, he showed great determination by returning. Since undergoing surgery, Herbert has not resumed throwing the ball, which has left backup Trey Lance handling first-team duties at practice.
Despite his condition, Herbert remains persistently optimistic. “I’m preparing as if I’m playing and will evaluate my status in the coming days. I want to be out there for my team,” he remarked. With the Chargers standing at an 8-4 record and performing well, his return is particularly crucial as they vie for a playoff spot after winning four of their last five matches.
So far this season, Herbert has completed 66.9% of his passes, accumulating 2,842 yards along with 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His recovery is closely followed by fans and analysts, as the team’s playoff aspirations heavily depend on his readiness.
Coach Jim Harbaugh has indicated a carefully measured optimism regarding Herbert's potential return. The team is eager to see him lead against the formidable Eagles, and all focus will be directed towards Herbert’s progress in the coming days.
