New York dazzled on Monday evening as the 35th Gotham Awards ushered in the film awards season with flair, glamour, and surprising achievements. Taking place at Cipriani Wall Street, the celebration was known for its relaxed yet star-studded environment, where eye-catching fashion and remarkable talent were in the spotlight.
Main Winners Captivate the Audience
Paul Thomas Anderson’s eagerly awaited “One Battle After Another” arrived at the event boasting an unprecedented six nominations, the highest in Gotham's history. However, the film walked away with just one accolade for Best Feature, indicating that the competition was stiffer than expected. Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi made a significant impact, securing three major awards for “It Was Just an Accident”, which included Best International Feature, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Director—highlighting his prominence at the event.
Red Carpet Fashion Turns Heads
While the awards ceremony took center stage, the red carpet showcased its own array of surprises. Rihanna turned heads in a stunning Balenciaga outfit, with A$AP Rocky complementing her look in Chanel. Jacob Elordi's stylishly casual ensemble, Jennifer Lawrence in timeless Dior, Naomi Watts in elegant Calvin Klein, and Michael B. Jordan's trademark sharp appearance garnered significant attention. Notable figures like Jeremy Allen White, Alexander Skarsgård, Amanda Seyfried, and Benicio Del Toro opted for more understated yet striking looks.
Elle Fanning's chic Ralph Lauren gown, along with appearances by Andrew Scott, Hugh Jackman, Oscar Isaac, and Ethan Hawke, rounded out the evening's glamorous attendees. Jackie and Adam Sandler made a notable joint appearance, with Kate Hudson, Alec Baldwin, and Paul Rudd bringing even more star power to the night.
A Modest Ceremony with Major Impact
Despite being labeled “low-key”, the Gotham Awards have a tradition of setting the tone for the awards season. Anderson's notable first win and Panahi's triplet of victories might sway the momentum in upcoming festivals and guild nominations. The event's mix of striking fashion and unexpected successes confirms its status as a highlight, proving even a relaxed ceremony can create memorable headlines.
