Honda Motor is preparing to gradually restart normal operations at its North American vehicle assembly plants beginning Monday, indicating relief from the recent semiconductor shortage that had impacted production. The shortage, linked to challenges from Nexperia's semiconductor supplies, led Honda to halt its Mexican plant on October 28 and reduce output in the U.S. and Canada since October 27.
The automaker confirmed it has secured a consistent supply of chips, partially by sourcing alternative components, allowing for a phased return to regular manufacturing schedules. However, Honda noted that these plans remain adaptable as the supply dynamics evolve.
This gradual restart signifies a constructive step towards addressing the supply chain hurdles that have recently affected the global automotive industry. Honda’s initiative reflects broader efforts by manufacturers to stabilize production amidst ongoing semiconductor shortages.
As the chip supply stabilizes, Honda’s North American plants are expected to regain their pace, enhancing vehicle availability for customers and bolstering the broader automotive market.
