ICC Men's T20 World Cup hosts India national cricket team defeated England cricket team by seven runs in a thrilling semi-final to qualify for the tournament final.
The high-scoring match was played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where both teams combined for 499 runs — the highest total runs ever recorded in a men's T20 World Cup match.
Samson Leads India's Batting Charge
After being put in to bat, India posted a massive 253/7 in 20 overs, thanks to a brilliant innings from Sanju Samson.
Samson played an explosive knock of 89 runs off 42 balls, hitting eight fours and seven sixes. He set the tone early and punished England after being dropped on 15 by Harry Brook.
He also built important partnerships during the innings:
97 runs with Ishan Kishan (39 off 18)
43 runs with Shivam Dube (43 off 25)
Late cameos from Hardik Pandya (27 off 12) and Tilak Varma (21 off 7) pushed India past the 250 mark.
India’s innings included 19 sixes and 18 fours, earning 186 runs through boundaries.
England’s bowlers struggled, especially Jofra Archer, who conceded 61 runs in four overs.
England Fight Back in Record Chase
Chasing a huge target, England made a strong attempt and finished at 246/7, falling just seven runs short.
India struck early when Hardik Pandya dismissed Phil Salt. Soon after, Jasprit Bumrah removed Harry Brook with a brilliant catch by Axar Patel.
England captain Jos Buttler scored 25 off 17, but was bowled by Varun Chakaravarthy, leaving England at 68/3 in the powerplay.
Despite early setbacks, Jacob Bethell kept England in the contest with a spectacular 105 off 48 balls, including eight fours and seven sixes.
However, Bethell was run out late in the innings, which proved to be the turning point. Tight bowling from Bumrah in the final overs and sharp fielding from India helped seal the victory.
