India Claims T20 Series Against Australia Amid Rain Disruption

Post by : Meena Hassan

India’s concluding T20 match against Australia at the Gabba was a letdown for fans, as relentless rainfall led to the game's abandonment. Nonetheless, India wrapped up the series with a convincing 3-1 victory, underscoring their strength ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup.

Set to bat first, India’s openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma began aggressively, notching up 52 runs without loss in just under five overs before lightning forced a stop. Gill was impressive, striking six boundaries en route to an unbeaten 29, while Abhishek remained not out on 23, having narrowly escaped two dropped catches from Glenn Maxwell and Ben Dwarshuis.

Even with a full house waiting, the inclement weather proved unyielding, leading to the match’s cancellation over two hours later.

The series had earlier seen its first match in Canberra similarly wrecked by rain, followed by Australia securing the second contest in Melbourne by four wickets, thanks to a remarkable performance by pacer Josh Hazlewood. After withdrawing several Ashes-bound players, India rebounded powerfully to win the third T20 in Hobart by five wickets and the fourth on the Gold Coast by 48 runs.

Young opener Abhishek Sharma earned the Player of the Series title, amassing 163 runs at an average of 40.75. “Our team demonstrated great resilience coming back from an initial loss; it was truly a team effort,” remarked India's captain Suryakumar Yadav.

Australia's skipper Mitch Marsh commended the competitive nature of the series, stating, “It was a great contest; both teams were in it. India capitalized when it counted, so kudos to them.”

With this victory, India, the world’s leading T20 team, heads home fortified with confidence and depth in their squad, gearing up for their title defense at the T20 World Cup next year.
