In a commanding display, India triumphed over New Zealand by seven wickets in the second T20I held at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. This victory places India in a strong position with a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
India began their chase of 209 runs with an unexpected challenge, losing Sanju Samson for just 6 runs in the opening over and Abhishek Sharma for a golden duck soon after, leaving the team struggling at 8/2.
However, the partnership between Ishan Kishan and captain Suryakumar Yadav turned the tide. Together, they accrued 122 runs, swiftly bringing India back into contention. Kishan was remarkable, scoring 76 runs from 32 balls, featuring 11 fours and 4 sixes before being dismissed by Ish Sodhi in the 10th over.
Yadav remained resolute, notching up an impressive 82 not out off 37 balls, including 9 fours and 4 sixes, while Shivam Dube contributed with an unbeaten 36 runs off 18 deliveries. India completed the chase in a mere 15.2 overs.
Previously, New Zealand posted a total of 208 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs, with Rachin Ravindra contributing 44 off 26 balls and captain Mitchell Santner finishing unbeaten at 47. Kuldeep Yadav stood out among the bowlers, taking 2 wickets for 35 runs.
Despite the decent total set by New Zealand, their bowlers struggled to contain India's formidable batting display.
Brief Scores:
New Zealand: 208/6 (Santner 47*, Ravindra 44; Kuldeep Yadav 2/35)
India: 209/3 in 15.2 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 82*, Ishan Kishan 76)
With this victory, India has taken a firm grip on the series, with three matches still to play.
