India finally had luck on their side as KL Rahul won the toss for the first time in 21 ODIs, ending a long streak that stretched back to the 2023 World Cup semi-final in Mumbai. Rahul flipped the coin with his left hand, and this small change worked in India’s favour. Without hesitation, India decided to field in the series decider. Rahul explained that dew had been appearing later during practice sessions in Visakhapatnam compared to Ranchi and Raipur, making fielding first a sensible choice.
To strengthen their batting, India brought in Tilak Varma and left out Washington Sundar, who bowled only seven overs across the first two ODIs. This decision means India will go into the deciding match without a sixth bowling option, putting more responsibility on their main bowlers. The Indian lineup features Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma as openers, followed by star batters Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Rahul himself, who continues as both captain and wicketkeeper. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja returns to play an important role, while the bowling unit includes Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna.
South Africa entered the final match aiming for a rare achievement: winning both the Test and ODI series on the same India tour. However, their plans were disrupted by injuries. Nandre Burger and Tony de Zorzi were ruled out after suffering hamstring issues in the second ODI. Their absence forced South Africa to make two changes, bringing in Ryan Rickelton and Ottneil Baartman. South Africa’s playing XI is led by Temba Bavuma, with experienced wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock opening the innings alongside Rickelton. The middle order includes Matthew Breetzke, Aiden Markram, and Dewald Brevis. Their all-round strength comes from Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch, while the spin responsibility lies with Keshav Maharaj. The pace attack is completed by Lungi Ngidi and Baartman.
With both teams adjusting their combinations, the match promises high competition. India’s strengthened batting and South Africa’s determined approach set the stage for an exciting series finale. Fans will be watching closely as both sides look to secure a memorable win, with key players like Ravindra Jadeja and Quinton de Kock expected to play major roles.
