Indonesia Elevates Air Defense with New Rafale Jets

Post by : Shakul

Indonesia is advancing its military capacity with a significant addition of new defense aircraft, including six Rafale fighter jets from France, celebrated during a formal ceremony in Jakarta.

President Prabowo Subianto was present at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base for the handover event on Monday, showcasing several of the newly acquired military assets for the Indonesian Air Force.

The new equipment encompasses six Rafale jets, four Dassault Falcon 8X aircraft, and one Airbus A400M Atlas military transport craft. These acquisitions form part of a comprehensive military modernization strategy.

In 2022, Indonesia finalized an $8.1 billion deal with France, when Prabowo was defense minister, to obtain a total of 42 Rafale jets for enhancing the nation’s air force capabilities.

Post-ceremony, President Prabowo affirmed that Indonesia remains committed to improving its defense capabilities amid mounting global geopolitical challenges and regional security concerns.

He reiterated that the objective is to preserve stability and heighten deterrence to safeguard the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Prabowo highlighted that Indonesia's intentions are not aggressive; rather, the aim is a robust national security framework underpinned by a modernized military.

Defense experts assert that the inclusion of sophisticated aircraft like the Rafale jets is set to significantly enhance Indonesia’s air defense and operational efficiency within the Indo-Pacific area.
