Post by : Meena Hassan

Inter Miami achieved a historic milestone by winning their first Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup, triumphing over the Vancouver Whitecaps with a score of 3-1 at Chase Stadium. Lionel Messi shone brightly, contributing with two assists and earning MVP accolades for his essential contributions.

The match kicked off with Miami taking an early lead in the eighth minute when Messi’s pinpoint pass to Tadeo Allende resulted in an own goal by a Vancouver defender. Although Vancouver controlled significant periods of the match and created several opportunities, Miami maintained their composure and responded effectively.

At the hour mark, Vancouver's Ali Ahmed found the net with a strong shot, leveling the score. However, Miami quickly restored their lead. In the 71st minute, Messi seized a loose ball and assisted Rodrigo De Paul, who finished calmly to put Miami ahead 2-1. The final goal came in stoppage time when Messi set up Allende, sealing a remarkable team performance.

The victory held special significance for long-time teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, who celebrated their last match with Miami. Messi expressed his admiration for them, stating, “Ending their careers this way is very special. They’ve dedicated their lives to the sport, and I wish them all the best.”

Club co-owner David Beckham, instrumental in the team's formation, joined the players in celebrating and reflecting on their journey. “The team has put in relentless effort throughout the season, and tonight, they’ve etched their names in history. This moment is just the beginning,” Beckham remarked.

With this victory, Inter Miami cements its status among the league's top teams and highlights Messi’s incredible influence in his debut season in the U.S.
