Inter Miami showcased a stellar performance with a 4-0 win against FC Cincinnati on Sunday, bolstered by Messi's brilliance. He not only scored one goal but also provided assists for the other three, as Tadeo Allende netted twice and Mateo Silvetti contributed with a goal of his own. This victory puts Miami in the Eastern Conference final against New York City FC next Saturday.
New York City FC secured their place after defeating top-seeded Philadelphia 1-0, thanks to a goal from Maxi Moralez in the 27th minute. Miami, entering the match with confidence, displayed their skills while effectively managing the play against a second-seeded Cincinnati side.
Coach Javier Mascherano commended Messi and the team for their exemplary performance, stating, “The players demonstrated remarkable character and executed a nearly flawless match. It’s a privilege to coach Leo and this talented team.” He emphasized Messi's ability both with and without the ball, as he dazzled on the field once more.
In front of a packed TQL Stadium, Cincinnati faced difficulties in capitalizing on their early opportunities. Miami’s first goal came when Messi delivered a pinpoint pass to Silvetti, who returned the favor, allowing Messi to score with a composed header, making it 1-0.
Cincinnati almost leveled the score in the 22nd minute, but Ender Echenique shot off target. Miami took control, with Messi narrowly missing a chance to extend the lead in the 27th minute. The second goal came in the 57th when Messi assisted Silvetti, who elegantly curled the ball into the net.
As Cincinnati pressed hard for a goal, defensive gaps emerged, and Messi capitalized on this. On 62 minutes, he set up Allende for the third goal, and again in the 74th minute for the fourth, showcasing exceptional teamwork.
This win brings Inter Miami closer to their first MLS Cup, scheduled for December 6, where they will meet the champions from the Western Conference, either from the Vancouver vs. San Diego or Minnesota United match.
