Abidur Chowdhury, Designer of iPhone Air, Departs Apple for AI Venture

Post by : Bianca Haleem

San Francisco – In a surprising move, Abidur Chowdhury, a key player in Apple’s design team known for his work on the iPhone Air launch video, has decided to part ways with the tech giant in favor of a role at an artificial intelligence startup, per insiders. This unexpected departure highlights the growing significance he held within Apple’s design department.

Chowdhury earned his Bachelor’s degree in Product Design and Technology from Loughborough University and has been navigating the industrial design arena since 2015. After gaining experience through internships at Cambridge Consultants and Curventa, he joined Layer Design in 2017. Following a year of freelancing, he became part of Apple’s team in January 2019 as an Industrial Designer.

Throughout his time at Apple, Chowdhury significantly contributed to the development of the iPhone Air, playing a vital role in both the design and marketing phases. He was also showcased in the official launch video of the product released in September 2025, a privilege typically granted to key figures within the company.

Insider reports clarify that his decision to leave is not related to the upcoming iPhone Air launch, as Apple gears up for a second-generation release expected in 2027. Although his LinkedIn profile hasn’t been updated yet, sources believe this transition aligns with Chowdhury's keen interest in cutting-edge technologies.

Analysts point out that departures like Chowdhury’s may indicate a notable trend of tech designers gravitating toward AI startups, merging innovative design with the advancements of next-gen technology.
