Air Travel Disruptions: Flights from Dubai and Turkey to Iran Cancelled

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Dubai: A minimum of six flights that were set for Friday, connecting Dubai with various Iranian cities, are now cancelled, as indicated by the Dubai Airports website. This situation has exacerbated existing disruptions in regional air travel tied to the persistent unrest in Iran.

The Al Khaleej newspaper reported that the cancelled flights encompassed routes from Dubai to Tehran, Shiraz, and Mashhad—key aviation hubs in Iran. No official explanation was provided for these cancellations, and there is no immediate word on whether affected travelers will be offered alternatives.

The disruption extends beyond the UAE, with Turkish Airlines cancelling all five scheduled flights to Tehran for Friday, per data from the Istanbul Airport mobile application. This source also noted the cancellation of five additional flights by Iranian carriers, while seven flights to Tehran remained unaffected.

Turkish officials have yet to release any public comments concerning the flight cancellations or the circumstances in Iran. These disruptions arise amid widespread protests in Iran sparked by escalating living costs, presenting a significant hurdle for the government under Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Currently, Iran is grappling with a severe economic crisis exacerbated by prolonged international sanctions, which have been further intensified by the recent conflict in June with Israel.
