External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently shared insights on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s two-day visit to India, characterizing it as a pivotal moment in redefining and enhancing the historic ties between New Delhi and Moscow. In a conversation with journalist Rahul Kanwal, Jaishankar noted the enduring nature of India-Russia relations, contrasting their stability with the volatility present in other global partnerships.
He underlined that the objective of the visit was to explore new dimensions in their bilateral relationship that have remained relatively untapped. Significant achievements included the establishment of a mobility agreement, discussions on a joint venture in fertilizers, and a renewed emphasis on collaborative efforts.
Regarding trade, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of India’s economic ties with the United States, stating it is a core aspect of ongoing strategic dialogues in Washington. He advocated for balanced trade deals that safeguard the interests of workers, farmers, and the middle class while ensuring just and reasonable negotiation terms.
On the topic of India-China relations, Jaishankar remarked that after the summit on October 24 between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, stability has largely been achieved in border areas. Normalized patrolling patterns and ongoing peace initiatives are vital for fostering healthy bilateral relations.
Jaishankar also addressed security challenges posed by Pakistan, asserting that numerous concerns, particularly terrorism and militant training camps, stem from the actions of the Pakistani military. He reaffirmed India’s dedication to following democratic norms in neighboring nations and expressed optimism for constructive regional outcomes.
The foreign minister’s comments illustrate India’s commitment to practical diplomacy, aligning regional security matters with global trade aspirations while striving for stable international partnerships. His remarks embody India’s ongoing endeavors to fortify relations with notable global powers, including Russia, the United States, and China, with a prudent approach towards regional issues.
