Clippers Triumph Over Mavericks 133-127 in Double Overtime Showdown

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Los Angeles Clippers snapped their six-game losing streak with an exhilarating 133-127 double-overtime win against the Dallas Mavericks in an intense NBA Cup confrontation. James Harden was the standout performer, delivering an extraordinary 41-point triple-double, marking his 82nd such achievement and keeping the Clippers perfect in West Group B.

In a remarkable display, Harden tallied 41 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists over 51 minutes, showcasing his stamina and skill until the final buzzer. He was pivotal in the second overtime, scoring four critical points that helped the Clippers seize control. This marked his eighth triple-double as a Clipper, setting a franchise record.

Alongside Harden, Ivica Zubac and Bogdan Bogdanovic made significant contributions. Zubac registered a season-best 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Bogdanovic netted 21 points, hitting crucial shots during key phases of the game. Derrick Jones Jr. also added 15 points, securing the win with two decisive free throws.

Despite the loss, the Mavericks fought valiantly. D’Angelo Russell and Naji Marshall each contributed 28 points, keeping Dallas competitive throughout. Russell was particularly effective down the stretch, scoring eight consecutive points that tied the game at 114-114 late in regulation, forcing overtime. Rookie Cooper Flagg also made an essential layup in the first overtime to level the score at 123-123.

The intense battle continued into both overtime sessions, with Harden's missed floater attempt at the end of the first overtime reflecting the fatigue of both teams. In the second overtime, the Clippers outscored Dallas 10-4, finally pulling ahead after nearly an hour of fiercely contested basketball.

Earlier, Harden ignited an 18-2 run during the second quarter with back-to-back three-pointers, giving the Clippers a 52-42 advantage. By halftime, he had already amassed 23 points, leading the team to a 62-55 edge at the break. While the Mavericks kept pushing back, Harden's scoring kept the Clippers steady before Dallas made a late charge.

The Mavericks welcomed back center Dereck Lively II after a nine-game absence due to a knee injury. Lively contributed 17 minutes, scoring four points and grabbing five rebounds, bringing an energy boost to Dallas, although it wasn't enough to counter Harden's brilliance.

With this victory, the Clippers improved to 2-0 in Group B, solidifying their spot at the top of the standings. The Mavericks, now 0-2, face a challenging road ahead in the NBA Cup. For the Clippers, this win could signal a pivotal moment as they aim to regain their momentum after a series of defeats.
