Vardy Shines as Cremonese Triumphs 3-1 Against Bologna

Post by : Meena Hassan

Jamie Vardy marked a memorable moment in his Italian journey, netting his first Serie A brace to propel Cremonese to an impressive 3-1 victory at Bologna.

The seasoned forward, who previously shone with Leicester City and England, showcased his trademark scoring prowess with two well-taken goals, one occurring before and the other after the interval. This victory lifts promoted Cremonese to 11th place with 17 points, while also handing Bologna their initial home loss of the season.

Bologna aimed to narrow the gap with league frontrunners AC Milan and Napoli, but Vardy's influence thwarted their aspirations on a rainy night at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

“We just needed a bit of rain; it felt like a classic midweek in the UK,” Vardy quipped after breaking Cremonese’s three-match winless stretch. “The key was securing all three points and continuing our momentum. Commitment and effort for the club are what matter most.”

Cremonese struck first in the 31st minute through Martin Payero, followed by Vardy, who doubled the lead with a nearly identical goal five minutes later. Bologna did manage a stoppage-time penalty from Riccardo Orsolini, but Vardy responded quickly in the second half, marking his fourth goal in nine appearances for the club.

Coach Davide Nicola commended Vardy, noting it’s a “privilege” to have him on the team. “Managing great players is straightforward; they understand their responsibilities and perform exceptionally. Vardy’s mindset and team spirit make him invaluable.”

Vardy joined Cremonese in September on a one-year contract, with a potential extension if the team maintains its Serie A status. He has articulated his eagerness to immerse himself in a different football culture, uniting with a club backed by Italian tycoon Giovanni Arvedi.
