Jamie Chadwick, a prominent British female racing driver, has revealed her aspiration to excel in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). At 27, she acknowledges her dream of racing in Formula One is diminishing, paving the way for a promising opportunity in endurance racing.
For the upcoming season, Chadwick will serve as the official reserve driver for Hyundai’s Genesis Magma Racing Hypercar initiative, also contributing to the team’s development efforts. This role marks a significant step toward her participation in the hypercar class of the WEC, the premier category in the championship.
Chadwick now sees the WEC as her key objective, recognizing that the hypercar class is a more viable goal compared to securing a Formula One race seat. She expressed excitement about being closer to realizing this ambition, with aspirations to conquer the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans, a pinnacle in motorsport.
She brings invaluable endurance racing experience, having participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year with the IDEC racing team, despite not finishing. Additionally, her time in the European Le Mans Series has enriched her understanding of long-distance racing, teamwork, and the intricacies of diverse racing conditions.
Prior to her shift to endurance racing, Chadwick earned acclaim in single-seater racing by clinching the all-female W Series title three times and serving as a development driver for Williams in Formula One. Despite her successes, securing a full-time F1 race seat has remained elusive, emphasizing the challenges faced by female drivers.
Chadwick has candidly addressed the obstacles women encounter in breaking into Formula One, acknowledging the competitive nature of the sport with only 20 seats available. She advocates for awareness of other elite championships where women can compete and thrive, which underscores her pivotal move to endurance racing.
Now, with fresh strategies and a defined path ahead, Chadwick’s gaze is fixed on the endurance racing landscape where she aims to compete at the WEC's highest level and ultimately claim victory at Le Mans. Her journey continues to motivate aspiring racers, especially women, who seek careers in motorsport.
