J&K Bowler Auqib Nabi Emerges as IPL Mini-Auction Star

Post by : Meena Hassan

Fast bowler Auqib Nabi from Jammu and Kashmir is generating considerable buzz as the IPL mini-auction approaches, thanks to his stellar domestic performances. Although he has yet to make his IPL debut, the 29-year-old right-arm pacer is poised for a breakthrough.

Nabi has shone in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, securing 15 wickets across seven matches. His impressive economy rate of 7.41 highlights his ability to contain runs while taking wickets, a crucial skill in T20 cricket. His memorable performance against Bihar, where he bagged 4 wickets for just 16 runs, showcased his precision and poise.

In the current Ranji Trophy, his performance has been nothing short of spectacular, with 29 wickets in nine innings, including three five-wicket hauls. His standout figures of 7 for 24 against Rajasthan played a pivotal role in leading Jammu and Kashmir into the knockout rounds, reinforcing his status as a match-winner.

For the past couple of seasons, consistency has defined Nabi’s career. Last season, he secured 44 wickets at an impressive average of 13.93, making him one of the top bowlers in the tournament. This sustained excellence has caught the attention of analysts and franchises alike.

Former Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara believes Nabi could be a valuable asset in the mini-auction. He suggests that teams may target him as a reliable backup option, particularly franchises already possessing strong pace-bowling units. With a base price of ₹30 lakh, Nabi represents a low-risk, high-reward choice for those aiming to bolster their bowling line-up.

This mini-auction may mark a pivotal moment in Nabi’s cricket career. After years of dedication and sustained domestic success, the Jammu and Kashmir bowler stands at the verge of an IPL chance that could significantly enhance his journey.
