Jordan Triumphs Over UAE in Thrilling Arab Cup 2025 Opener

Post by : Bianca Haleem

In a gripping start to their campaign, Jordan’s national team, known as Al-Nashama, managed to secure a 2–1 victory over the UAE during the Arab Cup 2025 opener at Al Bayt Stadium in Doha, showcasing a match filled with penalties, a red card, and late-game excitement.

The action commenced immediately, with Jordan displaying aggressive intent. Their efforts paid off when Yazan Al-Naimat was fouled in the box in the 20th minute, leading to Ali Alwan converting the ensuing penalty kick to give Jordan a 1–0 lead. This early incident cost the UAE significantly, as defender Khalid Ibrahim was shown a direct red card, leaving the team disadvantaged for the rest of the match.

Jordan, despite their numerical advantage, failed to capitalize on a chance to extend their lead just before halftime. Another penalty was awarded in the 39th minute when Al-Naimat was fouled by the goalkeeper, yet this time, Alwan’s attempt went astray, maintaining a 1–0 score as the first half concluded.

The UAE resumed the match with renewed vigor, managing to equalize just two minutes into the second half. Bruno Oliveira scored in the 47th minute, adding a twist to the match.

However, Jordan quickly regained control. In the 63rd minute, Yazan Al-Naimat secured the win with a composed goal, reinstating the lead for his side. Holding onto their numerical advantage, Jordan effectively dictated the game's pace in the final minutes.

This victory propels Jordan to the top of their group featuring Egypt, Kuwait, and the UAE, signaling a promising start to their Arab Cup 2025 journey.
