K-pop Celebrities Step Up for Hong Kong Fire Victims

Post by : Meena Hassan

Following a devastating apartment fire in Hong Kong that resulted in at least 128 deaths, numerous K-pop icons and entertainment firms are rallying to assist the victims.

Aespa announced on their Weibo profile that they will contribute 500,000 Hong Kong dollars to the Hong Kong Red Cross, expressing their sorrow over the unfortunate event.

Stray Kids pledged 1 million Hong Kong dollars via World Vision Hong Kong to aid affected children and families with temporary housing and other necessities, expressing their heartbreak at the calamity.

Moreover, SM Entertainment and JYP Entertainment have jointly contributed 3 million Hong Kong dollars to facilitate emergency relief and recovery initiatives.

Other groups, including Riize, EXO-CBX, and KickFlip, have each donated 100,000 Hong Kong dollars through World Vision Hong Kong.

Contrarily, the organizers of the MAMA Awards have faced backlash in South Korea for their decision to proceed with the event following the fire. They chose to cancel only the red carpet activities while going ahead with the main ceremony.

During the event, they expressed condolences to the victims and included a "Support Hong Kong" message along with a moment of silence. The organizers also committed 20 million Hong Kong dollars to the government's aid fund.
