Kalki Koechlin Reflects on Childhood and Newfound Joys of Motherhood

Post by : Meena Hassan

As Children’s Day is commemorated nationwide, Bollywood celebrities took a journey down memory lane, revisiting the carefree days of their youth—marked by scraped knees, cherished pets, and the little traditions that have defined them. Actor Kalki Koechlin shared an endearing memory from her own early years, including a nostalgic photograph.

Kalki reminisces about a unique yet lovable companion from her childhood—a baby squirrel that became an integral part of her early life. She shares a heartfelt anecdote along with a candid image from that time.

“That was my pet squirrel,” she recalls fondly. “He would sleep in my hair at night.” With a laugh, she adds, “When he was just a baby, I would feed him Cerelac with a pipette. I also had a habit of sucking my thumb for quite a while! That may have contributed to my big mouth!”

Now a mother to her 5-year-old daughter, Sappho, Kalki expresses how motherhood has introduced fresh joy and excitement into her life. “She’s a unique individual. I allow her to unleash her imagination. She adores face painting—sometimes she paints her own face, other times she takes to painting mine,” she says, her smile reflecting her heartfelt pride.

For Kalki, Children’s Day serves as a beautiful reminder of innocence, whimsical habits, and those peculiar yet cherished friendships that follow us into our adult years.
