The world of Indian cinema mourns the loss of Kamini Kaushal, a legendary actress known for her significant contributions to Bollywood, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 98. The news was shared by Sajan Narain, a family friend, who confirmed her death at her home in Mumbai. She was poised to celebrate her 99th birthday in February. While the cause of death remains undisclosed, an official family statement is anticipated shortly.
Kaushal's passing signifies the closure of an illustrious era in Hindi film history. With a career exceeding seventy years, she earned great reverence for her grace and versatility in portraying diverse characters. She rose to prominence through Chetan Anand's acclaimed film 'Neecha Nagar' (1946), which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, marking her as a trailblazer in Indian cinema and among the highest-paid actresses of her time.
A fixture in numerous iconic films such as 'Aag', 'Shaheed', 'Ziddi', and 'Nadiya Ke Paar', she collaborated with Bollywood greats like Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand, establishing a reputation for her emotive performances. Her extensive filmography includes significant works like 'Do Raaste', 'Heer Raanjha', 'Beti', 'Waaris', 'Laaga Chunari Mein Daag', 'Chennai Express', and 'Kabir Singh', with her final role being a cameo in 'Laal Singh Chadha'.

Kiara Advani, who starred in 'Kabir Singh', expressed her admiration on Instagram, stating, “It was a privilege to collaborate with you. Your grace and talent inspired many and left an indelible mark on our cinema. Rest in peace, Kamini Kaushal Ji.”
Shahid Kapoor, who worked alongside her in 'Kabir Singh', shared his heartfelt remembrance: “Rest in light ma’am,” highlighting the affection and respect he held for her as she played his character's grandmother.
Kareena Kapoor Khan also celebrated her legacy with an Instagram post featuring Kaushal’s photograph, adorned with love and respect emojis.
