Kapil Sharma’s Canada Cafe Shot at by Khalistani Terrorist

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Shortly after the incident, the team at Kap’s Cafe took to social media, particularly Instagram, to express their feelings and reassure their supporters. The message, titled “From the Heart, conveyed the team's deep sorrow over the violence but also emphasized their determination not to give up.

The statement read:

“We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up.”

The post continued by thanking fans for their support:

“Thank you for your support. Your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know. This café exists because of your belief in what we’re building together. Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Café remains a place of warmth and community. From all of us at Kap’s Cafe, thank you and see you soon, under better skies.”

Terrorist Harjit Singh Laddi Claims Responsibility

The gun attack has now been linked to Harjit Singh Laddi, a Khalistani terrorist who is among the most wanted by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA). According to authorities, Laddi is closely connected to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a banned terrorist organization.

Soon after the shooting, Laddi posted on social media claiming responsibility for the attack. He said the act was in response to a segment from Kapil Sharma’s comedy show, where a character allegedly made a joke or humorous reference about the Nihang Sikhs—a prominent religious group known for their traditional Sikh warrior lifestyle and attire.

In his post, Laddi stated:

“These remarks were considered to hurt the religious sentiments of Nihang Sikhs. This mockery is a mockery of Sikh spiritual traditions and the dignity of Nihang Sikhs. No religion or spiritual identity can be made fun of in the guise of comedy.”

He also mentioned that he tried to contact Kapil Sharma’s manager, but when his calls and messages were not answered, he decided to retaliate with this violent act.

No Injuries, But the Community Is Shaken

Even though no one was hurt in the attack, the emotional and psychological impact on the café team and the larger Indian community in Canada has been significant. Kap’s Café, which was built with a dream to create a cozy, cheerful environment for locals and fans alike, suddenly found itself in the middle of a terror-linked controversy.

Local residents in Surrey have expressed disbelief and concern over the incident, especially since the café had just started operating. Many citizens visited the place in the days leading up to the incident and described it as “welcoming, peaceful, and friendly.”

Surrey and Delta Police Thanked for Prompt Action

The Kap’s Café team also shared another public message thanking the Surrey Police and Delta Police for their quick response. Their intervention helped prevent any further escalation and ensured the safety of the community.

The police have launched a full investigation into the shooting. Canadian authorities are also working in coordination with international law enforcement agencies to monitor Harjit Singh Laddi and his known associates, especially since he is linked to other anti-India operations.

Support Pours In for Kapil Sharma and Kap’s Café

As the news spread, support began pouring in from across Canada, India, and the Indian diaspora worldwide. Social media platforms were filled with messages of encouragement and solidarity, urging the café team to stay strong and continue with their mission of spreading joy and warmth.

Many people, especially fans of Kapil Sharma, shared memories of his shows and appreciated his effort to bring his cheerful spirit to a new space through this café.

Some social media users wrote:

  • “You’ve made us laugh for years. We are standing with you now.”

  • “A café started with love should never fall to hate.”

  • “This is so wrong. We support Kap’s Cafe, Canada!”

Freedom of Speech vs. Religious Sentiments: The Larger Debate

This incident has once again sparked debates about the limits of comedy, free speech, and religious sensitivity. Kapil Sharma’s show has often pushed boundaries to bring humor into serious or cultural topics. While millions have appreciated this form of comedy, there have also been occasional criticisms, especially when religious or cultural groups feel targeted.

In this case, the Nihang Sikh community’s image was reportedly mocked in a comedic sketch, which offended some viewers. However, the use of violence as a response to such content has been widely condemned.

Most legal and public voices agree that while criticism and protest are valid in a democracy, violence is never an answer—especially against a platform designed for food, culture, and community interaction.

What Happens Next?

As investigations continue, authorities are keeping a close eye on other possible threats linked to this incident. The team at Kap’s Cafe has made it clear they will continue to operate and not back down in fear.

Kapil Sharma has not yet made a personal public statement, but sources say he is deeply concerned and is staying in close contact with his team in Canada.

The attack has also caught the attention of Indian media and diplomatic circles, especially since the suspect is on the NIA’s list. There are expected to be stronger international efforts to monitor extremist groups operating across borders and targeting individuals based on political or religious differences.

A Call for Peace and Unity

The attack on Kapil Sharma’s café is a disturbing reminder of how easily dreams can be threatened by hate and violence. What was meant to be a cozy gathering place for coffee, laughter, and memories has now become a scene of conflict—but also resilience.

With strong support from the public, timely police response, and the determination of the café team, Kap’s Café is standing strong. And perhaps, in the end, the most powerful message is the one they’ve already shared:

“We are not giving up. Let’s stand firm against violence.”
