Karan Johar Discusses Why Virat Kohli Never Joined Koffee With Karan

Post by : Meena Hassan

Karan Johar, the creator of the popular talk show Koffee With Karan, has welcomed numerous A-list celebrities from Bollywood, yet Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has notably never graced his couch. Although Kohli's wife, Anushka Sharma, has made several appearances, Karan recently addressed the absence of the cricketer.

During a revealing discussion with tennis player Sania Mirza on her podcast, Karan shared the backstory behind the cricket star not appearing on the program. When asked who he wished had been on the show but hasn't, Karan first mentioned Ranbir Kapoor, revealing, “He's been invited repeatedly, but has declined for the last three seasons.”

Upon Sania's mention of Virat Kohli, Karan candidly admitted to never extending an invitation to him. He clarified, “I’ve never reached out to Virat. After the incident with Hardik (Pandya) and (KL) Rahul, I decided against inviting any cricketers. I just felt many wouldn’t come, so I didn’t ask.”

Karan was referring to the controversial 2019 episode of Koffee With Karan featuring Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, which ignited outrage due to their inappropriate comments. The backlash resulted in the episode's removal, and both players faced suspensions from the Indian cricket team ahead of the Australia ODI series.

At that time, Karan expressed remorse, feeling a sense of accountability for the scandal and for the ramifications faced by the cricketers. Since then, he has opted to steer clear of inviting cricketers, choosing instead to focus on film personalities.

As Koffee With Karan continues to generate buzz year after year, fans remain hopeful that Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma will eventually sit together on that famed couch; however, KJo seems hesitant to extend that invitation any time soon.
