Karan Johar Discusses Virat Kohli's Absence from Koffee With Karan

Post by : Meena Hassan

Karan Johar, the charismatic host of the hit talk show Koffee With Karan, recently addressed the notable absence of cricket star Virat Kohli from his lineup of guests. In a discussion with Sania Mirza, he clarified, “I have never reached out to Virat. Following the incident with Hardik (Pandya) and (KL) Rahul, I’ve decided against inviting cricketers altogether.”

His comments reference the widely covered 2019 incident involving Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, whose appearance on the show sparked significant backlash due to their controversial remarks about women. Hardik’s statements, suggesting he learned to “treat women” from observing West Indian players, resulted in outrage and disciplinary measures from the BCCI, which included suspensions and fines for both cricketers.

Karan has previously expressed feelings of personal responsibility regarding the fallout from that episode, stating, “I feel accountable because it was my show and my guests, so I must bear the consequences as well.” The incident has influenced his approach toward inviting sports personalities, leaving him cautious about potentially disruptive conversations.

As fans still hope for a future episode featuring Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, Karan Johar's recent comments indicate a deliberate choice to avoid further controversy associated with cricket figures.
