Kasim Khan, son of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and cricket icon Imran Khan, has expressed grave concerns regarding his father's ongoing detention. Recently active on social media, Kasim disclosed that his family has been unable to visit Imran for over a month and called upon human rights groups to take notice of the situation. He emphasized that any adverse outcomes from his father’s isolation will rest squarely on the Pakistani government’s shoulders.
Born in 1999 to Imran Khan and British journalist Jemima Goldsmith, Kasim is the younger sibling to Sulaiman Isa Khan. After some initial years in Pakistan, he relocated to London following the divorce of his parents. He later earned a degree in anthropology and innovation from the University of Bristol. This year, he established Mifu, a platform aimed at linking influencers with brands for better monetization opportunities. Although largely distanced from political activities, he has been vocal about his father's situation.
In his latest update, Kasim reported on the dire conditions his father is facing, describing the environment of solitary confinement as akin to a "death cell". He noted that his sisters have been prevented from visiting him despite court rulings that allow it and stated that neither he nor his brother has had any communication with their father. He reiterated that the Pakistani authorities will be fully accountable for his father's safety and any backlash from his continued isolation. Officials, however, have denied claims of deterioration in Imran Khan’s health, insisting that he remains healthy.
Imran Khan’s heritage is quite prominent. He was born to Ikramullah Khan Niazi, a civil engineer who contributed to the Pakistan movement, and Shaukat Khanum, a homemaker. Imran has four sisters: Rubina, Aleema, Uzma, and Rani. He has been married three times: first to Jemima Goldsmith, whom he wed in 1995 and had two sons with; their marriage ended in 2004. His second marriage to journalist Reham Khan lasted only a few months in 2015. He is currently married to Bushra Bibi, whom he regards as his spiritual guide.
Kasim Khan's statements arrive at a time of heightened public anxiety regarding the former prime minister, whose imprisonment has ignited protests and called into question human rights practices in Pakistan. His plea for international attention further underscores the escalating conflict surrounding Imran Khan’s detention and the challenges faced by his family, highlighting what he labels as the inhumane conditions in which his father is held.
