Kazakh Duo Arrested for High-Tech Cheating at Sydney Casino

Post by : Bianca Haleem

A couple from Kazakhstan has been apprehended in Sydney after a cheating scheme was uncovered, allegedly netting them over Rs 7 crore (A$1.2 million) at the Crown casino. The duo—Dilnoza Israilova, 36, and her 44-year-old spouse, Alisherykhoja Israilov—had just arrived in Australia and quickly became known as prominent gamblers.

Their streak of good fortune raised suspicions, but the pivotal moment came with the discovery of a concealed camera hidden inside a Mickey Mouse T-shirt. Casino security reported noticing this device during one of their visits, triggering an immediate investigation.

Authorities quickly arrived at the Barangaroo casino and apprehended the couple. According to investigators, the covert camera was designed to capture real-time images of the card tables and transmit them to their mobile devices. Both individuals were reportedly wearing undetectable earpieces, which enabled them to receive live betting guidance.

A search of their possessions revealed additional equipment believed to be used for cheating—magnetised probes, a mobile phone mirror attachment, and various gambling accessories. The camera-equipped shirt is thought to have been critical in providing visual information during their winning rounds.

Follow-up investigations of their Sydney residence led to the seizure of more gambling gadgets, valuables, and approximately Rs 2 lakh (2,000 euros) in cash. Authorities suspect that the couple employed this method over numerous visits to achieve unwarranted gains.

Both individuals have been charged with unlawfully obtaining a financial advantage and are currently in custody. Dilnoza is set to appear in court in February, while Alisherykhoja's hearing is scheduled for December 11 at the Downing Centre Local Court.
