The Recording Academy disclosed the nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards on Friday, showcasing a fierce and vibrant lineup this year. At the forefront is Kendrick Lamar, who has garnered nine nominations, equaling his count from the previous year. Close behind, Lady Gaga follows with seven nominations, propelling both artists into the spotlight as key players in this year's awards discussion.
Both Lamar's GNX and Gaga's MAYHEM are prominent entries in the coveted Album of the Year category. Despite their numerous nominations in the past, neither has yet clinched a win in this category, heightening anticipation for the forthcoming ceremony, interestingly scheduled for February 1 in Los Angeles.
Experts in the industry largely lean towards Lamar, whose nominations span multiple categories like Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. This extensive recognition indicates robust backing from the Recording Academy's voting body. Billboard Awards editor Paul Grein has noted that Kendrick Lamar might be on course to become the first solo male rapper to win Album of the Year, a landmark moment in Grammy history. However, Grein emphasizes that Lady Gaga is a strong contender, remaining consistently relevant in discussions about major accolades.
This year's nominations also highlight the impressive entries from artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Bad Bunny, both receiving six nominations. Carpenter's album Man’s Best Friend has notably increased her visibility in mainstream music. Meanwhile, Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny is making strides into significant Grammy categories such as Album, Record, and Song of the Year, and he is slated to headline the Super Bowl halftime show next year, further boosting his profile.
Taylor Swift, who holds the record for the most Album of the Year wins, is notably missing from this year's nominations. Her recent work, The Life of a Showgirl, did not qualify for this Grammy cycle and will be in contention for next year's awards instead.
The voting process will involve roughly 15,000 members of the Recording Academy, representing an array of musical styles and genres, showcasing the music industry's ongoing transformation.
Music fans and industry observers alike await the Grammy Awards ceremony, where victors will be honored, celebrating last year's achievements in music.
