Seven Kenyans Detained in South Africa for Unauthorized Work at US Refugee Center

Post by : Meena Hassan

Authorities in South Africa have apprehended seven Kenyan individuals for illegally working at a facility that processes refugee applications for white South Africans seeking asylum in the US.

These individuals were reportedly in South Africa on tourist visas, having previously been denied work permits. They face deportation and a five-year entry ban for violating immigration regulations.

This operation underscores the South African government's determination to combat illegal immigration and visa infringements. Initial diplomatic conversations have begun with both the United States and Kenya following this incident.

The refugee application process is overseen by two entities: RSC Africa, a Kenyan organization providing assistance, and Amerikaners, a South African group offering guidance to Afrikaners wishing to relocate to the US.

Despite a significant reduction in the overall US refugee intake from 125,000 to 7,500, the US still prioritizes applications from the white Afrikaner population, which has drawn claims of persecution that South Africa strongly disputes.

These arrests arrive against a backdrop of heightened tensions between South Africa and the Trump administration surrounding refugee policies and land redistribution debates.
