Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

At the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh 2025, Saudi fencer Khalifa Al-Amiri reached an impressive milestone by earning a bronze medal in Épée. His journey to the medal was marked by skill, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to representing Saudi Arabia on an international platform.

Al-Amiri's path started strong with decisive victories leading him to the semi-finals. In the Round of 32, he faced Kuwait's Abdulrahman Al-Manea and won decisively with a score of 15-5, showcasing exceptional technique and strategy. He then continued his success against Türkiye’s Doruk Erolçevik, winning 15-9, and advanced from a nail-biting quarter-final match against Uzbekistan's Yerlik Sertay, which he won by 15-14.

In the semi-finals, Al-Amiri took on Meyirkhan Timurov from Uzbekistan, a strong contender who ultimately clinched the gold. Despite a commendable effort, Al-Amiri fell short with a score of 13-15. This match emphasized the competitive nature of the Islamic Solidarity Games and the level of dedication needed to excel. His bronze medal not only enhances Saudi Arabia's medal count but also provides motivation for aspiring athletes in the nation.

On the women's side, the Saudi women's fencing team also participated in the Épée event. Despite valiant efforts against their opponents, they faced defeats to Azerbaijan (8-21) and Côte d'Ivoire (10-16). Although results were not as hoped, their involvement signifies an important stride forward in promoting women's participation in fencing and developing the sport within Saudi Arabia.

The Riyadh 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games showcased talents from across the globe, fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship, and solidarity among nations while allowing athletes to garner invaluable experience. For Saudi Arabia, this event represents a significant opportunity to showcase its athletes across a range of sports, including fencing.

Khalifa Al-Amiri’s bronze achievement underscores his rigorous training and dedication, inspiring young sports enthusiasts in Saudi Arabia to chase their aspirations in athletics. His success is bolstered by the unwavering support from coaches and peers, reflecting the Kingdom's growing emphasis on sports development.

Saudi Arabia remains committed to nurturing athletic talent, striving for excellence both domestically and in international venues. Achievements like that of Al-Amiri not only motivate future generations but also enhance the Kingdom's profile in global sports. His performance at the Islamic Solidarity Games is poised to invigorate interest in fencing and encourage youth participation in this dynamic sport.
