Diljit Dosanjh Remains Steadfast Amid Khalistani Threats

Post by : Meena Hassan

Renowned Punjabi artist Diljit Dosanjh has recently encountered threats from Khalistani extremists, ignited by incidents during his global tour.

Concert-Related Threats

During Diljit’s performance in Perth, pro-Khalistan chants emerged, occurring alongside a threat by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a US-based Khalistani terrorist. Reports suggest that his forthcoming show in Auckland, New Zealand, is also being targeted, with supporters warning of potential disruptions.

Regardless of these serious challenges, Diljit has exhibited remarkable calm, continuing to connect with his fans during performances. He expressed gratitude to the Adelaide audience, encouraging them to remain composed and focus on positive actions instead of succumbing to outside threats.

Controversy Background

The threats against Diljit escalated following his recent appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, where he performed a gesture of respect by touching Amitabh Bachchan’s feet. This action provoked backlash from Khalistani factions. Pannun, along with his banned organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), released videos condemning the artist, accusing him of disrespecting the victims of the 1984 Sikh genocide.

Pannun claimed, "By touching Bachchan's feet, Diljit has disrespected every victim, widow, and orphan of the 1984 Sikh Genocide."

The SFJ is banned in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act due to its separatist objectives, and the Ministry of Home Affairs labels its activities as detrimental to the integrity of India.

Diljit’s Message

Diljit maintained that his appearance on KBC aimed to raise awareness and funds for those affected by recent floods in Punjab, rather than promoting any film. During his Brisbane concert, he conveyed a message of peace and unity, stating:

"Always discuss love. To me, this earth is one. My Guru says, 'Ik Onkar.' I harbor only love for everyone, regardless of jealousy or criticism. I will perpetually spread love."

He emphasized that individuals should concentrate on their own hearts and actions, entrusting the outcome to a higher power, thus reinforcing his commitment to positivity and compassion.
