Chase Koepka Sets His Sights on LIV Golf Return This January

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Chase Koepka, the American golfer, is gearing up for his much-anticipated return to the LIV Golf League at a Promotions event in January. After facing two years of challenges due to shoulder surgery, the 31-year-old is now injury-free and eager to compete again.

Koepka expressed enthusiasm about the event's location in Florida, his home state. “The great thing about this Promotions event is that it's in Florida, so it's essentially a home game for me,” he stated. “I’ve missed out on playing it for two years, so having the chance again is fantastic. If I play well, everything else will fall into place.”

After being dropped from the LIV Golf League in 2023, Koepka underwent significant shoulder surgery, taking him out of tournaments for over a year. The road to recovery was lengthy and demanding, pushing his competitive return to January 2024. His comeback represents a new chapter, albeit one that comes with the struggle of finding his form after such a lengthy hiatus.

Though Koepka has begun making strides in his comeback, he has yet to find the consistency to re-establish himself at the top. Currently, he ranks 44th in the International Series Order of Merit, noticeably far from the top spots needed for automatic qualification into the LIV Golf League for next season. After finishing tied for 43rd at the Singapore Open, he noted, “It’s been a mixed bag. I’ve had some solid performances, but I still need to put myself into a better position to win. That’s what I’m targeting next.”

Koepka acknowledges that while he senses improvement in his play, the challenge lies in transforming these efforts into wins. “I’m not playing poorly, just haven’t performed well enough to contend on Sundays,” he mentioned. His primary aim is to regain confidence and rhythm ahead of the critical Promotions event in early 2025.

The upcoming LIV Golf Promotions event is anticipated to attract several prominent names, including Anthony Kim, who is also eyeing a comeback. Both athletes will vie for the limited spots available in the LIV Golf League, making the Florida event not just a competition, but a crucial test of skill and mental strength.

Like Koepka, 40-year-old Anthony Kim is working on his return to professional golf after a long absence due to personal struggles. Having resumed competition in 2023 following a 12-year hiatus related to addiction and mental health issues, Kim’s journey back has been both emotional and inspiring. Although he was also relegated from LIV Golf in August, he is motivated to reclaim his spot through the Promotions event.

Kim emphasizes the necessity of balancing his professional aspirations with family. “My return to golf is about more than just competition; it’s also about being there for my family,” he conveyed. He aims to participate in select 2025 events, with particular focus on the Asian Tour’s International Series.

Despite the ups and downs, Kim remains resolute about continuing to play professionally. “I’m committed to this journey and plan to keep playing for several more years,” he shared. His focus is on effort and consistency: “I’m eager to perform my best and let my results speak for themselves.”

For both Chase Koepka and Anthony Kim, 2025 signifies a pivotal year. They are striving to reestablish their status among the elite in golf after extended periods away from their peak performance. The upcoming LIV Golf Promotions event in Florida will challenge their skills and further symbolize their commitment to rebound from setbacks and come back stronger than ever.
