Kohli and Rohit Gear Up in the Nets for First ODI Showdown

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Ranchi, November 29, 2025 – The excitement builds as Indian cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma make their return to international action at home, facing South Africa in the inaugural ODI of a three-match series this Sunday. Leading up to the match, both players took early initiative, hitting the nets for additional training to refine their techniques.

Kohli, known for his fierce competitiveness, displayed remarkable focus during practice, leaving young wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant impressed. In a session against left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, Kohli executed an exquisite aerial shot, prompting Pant's enthusiastic remark from behind the stumps, “Bhai ji, acha ball tha yeh. Tagda maar diya.” His intense preparation highlights his eagerness to excel following the recent ODI series in Australia.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma was equally dedicated, spotted in a strategic conversation with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is expected to open as Shubman Gill recovers from a neck injury. Together, Kohli and Rohit focused on honing both grounded and aerial shots, gearing up for the challenge posed by the South African team.

The return of these senior figures is a significant boost for India. Stand-in captain KL Rahul emphasized their vital role, remarking that the presence of seasoned players like Kohli and Rohit uplifted not just team performance, but also bolstered morale among the squad. “Their guidance is invaluable. Just by being here, they elevate the confidence of others in the team,” Rahul stated.

Kohli's recent outings in Australia saw a blend of challenges; although he faced two ducks in his initial ODIs, he rebounded strongly with an unbeaten 74 in the final match. Conversely, Rohit was recognized as Player of the Series, showcasing his stability at the highest level with a century and a half-century.

As India prepares for the first ODI clash against South Africa, Kohli's passion coupled with Rohit's experience sets the stage for an exhilarating series opener. Fans are eagerly anticipating the duo to lead India in a crucial home series, serving as an essential precursor to the 2027 ODI World Cup.
