Tension Between Kohli And Gambhir Raises Concern In Indian Team

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The ongoing tension between Virat Kohli and head coach Gautam Gambhir has once again become a major talking point in Indian cricket. Their disagreements, arguments, and past clashes have always attracted attention, especially during IPL seasons, where both have faced each other in heated moments. Over the years, social media has turned their rivalry into constant drama, often making the situation bigger than it really is.

However, this time the issue has taken a more serious turn. According to reports, Gambhir is receiving extremely harsh and personal abuse online from a section of fans. Many feel that this level of hatred is unfair, harmful, and far beyond normal criticism. This growing negativity has now worried the BCCI, as it believes such behaviour is unacceptable, especially toward a sitting national coach.

Recent updates also suggest that the relationship between Gambhir and senior players Kohli and Rohit Sharma has become “cold.” This cooling of relations is reportedly more visible in the ODI squad, where communication has reduced and the atmosphere has become tense. These concerns grew stronger after both Rohit and Kohli suddenly retired from Test cricket, a decision that surprised fans and experts alike. At recent events, the lack of conversation between Gambhir and Kohli was clearly noticed.

Even so, Gambhir has always shown respect toward the senior players when talking about their cricketing achievements. After Kohli retired from Test cricket, Gambhir even posted a warm and respectful message praising his incredible contribution to Indian cricket. His public statements also highlight that he always prioritises the success of the team over individuals.

But despite these gestures, the public conversation around the issue continues to heat up. The constant focus on the supposed rift is creating more trouble for the team than for the individuals involved. Some reports also say that Gambhir and the selectors may have different ideas about the future direction of the team, which adds to the confusion and tension.

Many experts believe that the real loser in this growing drama will be Indian cricket. Both Kohli and Rohit are still important for India’s ODI future and could remain key players in upcoming major tournaments, including the 2027 World Cup, as long as they continue their strong performances. Their recent ODI form shows they still have plenty to offer at the highest level.

But if this narrative of conflict keeps spreading, it could disturb the team environment, damage the dressing-room harmony, and distract players from focusing on performance. Indian cricket is currently in a transition phase, and unnecessary negativity can slow down progress and affect results.

For the betterment of the sport, it is important that this storyline is not pushed further. If the situation spirals out of control, the relationship between two of India’s biggest cricket icons could weaken even more, affecting the entire setup. Everyone—from fans to media—must act responsibly to ensure Indian cricket stays strong and united instead of getting lost in a personal rivalry that may not be as deep as it seems.
