Saudi Arabia Marks Arabic Language Day at UN Headquarters

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language has started its special celebrations for World Arabic Language Day at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. The event runs from December 2 to 4 and highlights Saudi Arabia’s strong efforts to support the Arabic language at the global level. These celebrations are held under the sponsorship of Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan, the Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Academy’s Board of Trustees. His support reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening the Arabic language and confirming its position as one of the official languages of the United Nations.

The celebration is organized in cooperation with the Kingdom’s Permanent Mission to the UN. Together, they arranged several cultural and interactive activities designed to showcase the richness, history, and global influence of the Arabic language. These programs aim to remind the world that Arabic is not only a method of communication but also a carrier of deep cultural heritage that has shaped many other languages and civilizations.

Visitors to the event were able to attend dialogue sessions discussing the role of Arabic in international organizations. These sessions focused on how the language contributes to global understanding, diplomacy, and cultural exchange. Experts also spoke about the importance of preserving linguistic diversity and how Arabic continues to play a vital role in bridging cultures.

In addition to discussions, the exhibition area displayed several of the Academy’s key projects. These projects highlight the Academy’s work to develop Arabic language curricula, support research, and provide digital tools that help learners and researchers. The exhibition also included beautifully created Arabic handicrafts that reflect the artistic side of the language, showing how deeply it is connected to creativity, identity, and history.

High-level officials from the United Nations and representatives from different member states attended the event. Their presence highlights the importance of the Arabic language on the international stage and the interest many countries have in learning more about its cultural and linguistic impact. The gathering also created an opportunity for cooperation between nations in promoting languages as tools for peace, understanding, and global connection.

These celebrations strongly support the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. One of the central aims of Vision 2030 is to strengthen cultural identity while encouraging intercultural understanding. By organizing these activities at the UN, the Kingdom shows that it is committed not only to developing its own cultural programs but also to sharing its heritage with the rest of the world.

The event also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s efforts to promote dialogue between different cultures. Through activities such as exhibitions, workshops, and discussions, the celebrations encourage people from many backgrounds to learn about the Arabic language, appreciate its beauty, and understand its global value.

The King Salman Global Academy’s celebration at the United Nations serves as a major platform to highlight Arabic as a language of culture, diplomacy, science, and creativity. The initiative reflects the Kingdom’s dedication to protecting and promoting Arabic, ensuring it remains strong and influential for future generations.
