NEW YORK – On Thursday, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, supervisor-general of the Saudi aid agency KSrelief, met with Cindy Hensley McCain, executive director of the World Food Programme (WFP), during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the two organizations and discussing ongoing humanitarian projects around the world.
The discussions highlighted a shared commitment to addressing global food insecurity and providing aid to communities affected by conflict, natural disasters, and economic challenges. Both leaders exchanged updates on projects that aim to deliver food, healthcare, and emergency assistance to vulnerable populations.
McCain praised KSrelief for its achievements in humanitarian relief and development work. She emphasized the agency’s dedication to supporting countries and communities in need, noting that Saudi Arabia’s aid programs have made a significant impact globally.
Meanwhile, Dr. Al-Rabeeah spoke at the session titled “Humanitarian Diplomacy in Action: Collective Response to the Crises in the Middle East.” He stressed the importance of combining humanitarian efforts with diplomacy to promote peace and stability. According to Al-Rabeeah, addressing humanitarian crises is not only about providing food and aid but also about creating dialogue between governments, organizations, and affected communities.
“Humanitarian diplomacy is essential for achieving peace and stability. It allows us to work together, even in challenging situations, to support those in need,” Al-Rabeeah said. He highlighted that effective collaboration between agencies like KSrelief and WFP can ensure aid reaches the people who need it most, even in complex political environments.
The meeting reflects the growing importance of international cooperation in humanitarian work. By sharing knowledge, coordinating projects, and leveraging resources, KSrelief and WFP aim to improve the speed and efficiency of relief efforts worldwide. This partnership is part of a broader global effort to respond to crises in the Middle East, Africa, and other regions affected by war, famine, and displacement.
The cooperation also underscores Saudi Arabia’s role in global humanitarian initiatives. KSrelief has been active for years in providing emergency assistance, medical aid, and development programs in countries such as Yemen, Syria, Sudan, and Lebanon. By working closely with WFP, the agency hopes to expand its reach and impact, ensuring that aid delivery is timely and effective.
Experts believe that dialogue between aid agencies and international organizations is crucial in today’s world. Combining humanitarian work with diplomacy can help prevent conflicts, reduce suffering, and support long-term development.
