Lane Closures Set to Commence on Hwy 417 in Ottawa

Post by : Shweta

Ottawa motorists are urged to brace for potential traffic interruptions as construction-induced lane closures on Highway 417 begin this Monday. This initiative is part of the Rapid Bridge Replacement project, aimed at enhancing key infrastructure along the heavily trafficked highway.

Oversight of the construction is provided by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, with Kiewit Dufferin Midtown Partnership (KDMP) leading the work. Notably, the furthest right eastbound lane on Highway 417 will be closed between Carling Avenue and the Rochester Avenue off-ramp.

Moreover, drivers should anticipate temporary lane and ramp closures in both eastbound and westbound lanes from Island Park Drive to Kent Street. Staged construction zones will be implemented, which could lead to additional delays, particularly during peak traffic hours.

This construction phase is projected to last until late summer. Crews will concentrate on several upgrades, including the replacement of the noise barrier wall along the highway. Additional improvements comprise street repairs, drainage enhancements, electrical work, and the resurfacing of retaining walls.

This initiative is part of a larger project commenced in 2021 aimed at replacing aging overpasses along the Queensway—an essential transportation artery in Ottawa. Officials assert that these upgrades are crucial for enhancing road safety, optimizing traffic flow, and ensuring the long-term reliability of the infrastructure.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allocate extra travel time, and seek alternative routes if feasible. Clear signage and traffic management protocols will be enforced to facilitate safe navigation through construction areas.
