On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated four new Vande Bharat Express trains, significantly enhancing India’s modern railway network. These trains will serve major cultural, economic, and pilgrimage routes, operating on the Banaras–Khajuraho, Lucknow–Saharanpur, Firozpur–Delhi, and Ernakulam–Bengaluru lines.
During the launch event, Modi highlighted the vital importance of infrastructure in national development, stating that improved connectivity paves the way for urban growth. He reiterated that robust transport systems are essential for driving regional advancements, far beyond just the construction of large bridges or highways.
Modi emphasized that these trains symbolize progress rather than being mere transportation means. He spoke about the spiritual significance of connecting heritage cities and stated that enhancing pilgrimage routes plays a crucial role in awakening national consciousness. He noted that recent development initiatives have empowered Uttar Pradesh's economy, with millions of visitors contributing significantly to local finances.
The Banaras–Khajuraho route will facilitate high-speed travel between two historical destinations, reducing journey time to about 2 hours and 40 minutes. This route will directly connect several important religious and cultural sites, including Varanasi and Khajuraho, thus incentivizing cultural tourism and enriching the pilgrimage experience in northern India.
Meanwhile, the Lucknow–Saharanpur route will shorten travel to approximately 7 hours and 45 minutes, making it more convenient for travelers from central and western Uttar Pradesh, including students and business professionals. The improved access to Haridwar through Roorkee is expected to further benefit intercity travel.
On the Firozpur–Delhi route, the Vande Bharat Express will emerge as the fastest service, covering the distance in just 6 hours and 40 minutes while reinforcing economic and cultural relationships among Punjab and Delhi.
In southern India, the Ernakulam–Bengaluru route is set for a travel time of 8 hours and 40 minutes, cutting down over two hours from prior journeys. This service will link significant IT and commercial hubs, thus promoting tourism and enhancing regional economic collaboration between Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
The addition of these four Vande Bharat trains signifies a major milestone in India's vision for an efficient, modern, and user-friendly rail system. Representing a commitment to self-reliance and world-class infrastructure, these new routes are designed to enhance national mobility, boost tourism, and drive regional economic advancement, reaffirming the government’s dedication to a connected and modern Bharat.
