Delhi Police have made significant headway in their investigation into the shooting incidents at comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada. The identified assailants, Sharry (also known as Gurjot) and Daljot Rehal, are linked to the infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The probe escalated following the interrogation of Bandhu Maan Singh Sekhon, who was apprehended last month and is believed to have supplied weaponry and support for the attacks on Sharma’s establishment, Kap’s Cafe, located in Surrey, Canada. The cafe has faced assaults on three instances since its inception in July 2025.
Kap’s Cafe, which opened in British Columbia, experienced its initial assault on July 10, followed by incidents on August 7 and October 16. Authorities disclosed that Singh allegedly delivered arms and a vehicle to Goldy Dhillon, an associate of the Bishnoi group, under instructions from gangster Sonu Khatri (also known as Rajesh). The shootings were executed on the orders of another alleged gangster termed Seepu.
The police reports also indicate a cross-border aspect to the case. Singh is thought to be associated with Pakistani gangster Harry Chatha, who is implicated in arms trafficking into India. Sources reveal that Chatha may be operating under the oversight of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), with Singh allegedly facilitating the import of illegal weapon shipments from Pakistan to India. Singh had recently returned from Canada on August 23 and was apprehended in Ludhiana in late November.
The identification of the shooters and their connections to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has expanded the investigation's scope. Central agencies are cooperating with Canadian law enforcement to locate the individuals involved. The recurring attacks at Kap’s Cafe have instilled fear in patrons and staff, signaling a serious issue with international criminal syndicates targeting renowned establishments.
During the initial shooting on July 10, around ten rounds were discharged, placing employees at risk. The August 28 incident saw over 25 shots fired along with threats implying further actions elsewhere. Security protocols for Kapil Sharma have been reinforced after the second attack. The most recent assault on October 16 involved a gunman firing at least twelve shots from a moving vehicle, underlining the ongoing threat posed by these aggressors.
This continuing investigation underscores the alarming trend of cross-border organized crime, linking regional Indian gangs with international networks engaged in smuggling. Authorities remain committed to ensuring justice for the victims while safeguarding high-profile public venues.
