Majid Bougherra Praises Algeria After Iraq Arab Cup Victory

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Algeria coach Majid Bougherra expressed his joy and satisfaction after his team’s important 2-0 win over Iraq at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha. The victory helped Algeria finish at the top of their group and secure a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup. Bougherra said he was proud of the players for their discipline, teamwork, and ability to follow the tactical plan throughout the match. He added that the players showed maturity on the field and demonstrated strong commitment from the first minute until the final whistle.

Bougherra also thanked the Algerian fans who came to the stadium and those supporting from home. He said their encouragement gave the team extra strength and motivation. He promised that Algeria will continue to play with the same energy and determination in the next stage, aiming to go even further in the tournament.

Algeria’s experienced midfielder Yacine Brahimi also shared his thoughts after the match. He said the team performed well, but the upcoming round will be more difficult, as they will face stronger opponents. Brahimi stressed the importance of staying focused and maintaining the same level of performance. He added that every match from now on is decisive, and the team must be ready for any challenge.

On the Iraqi side, coach Graham Arnold praised his players despite the defeat. Iraq played most of the match with ten men after receiving an early red card, and also suffered from injury problems. Arnold said he respected the courage and fighting spirit shown by the team under these tough conditions. He explained that reaching the quarter-finals was Iraq’s main goal, and he was pleased that the team achieved it.

Arnold described the Arab Cup as a valuable opportunity for Iraq to test new strategies and gain important experience that will help them prepare for future international competitions. He said the team would learn from their mistakes, recover, and focus on the next stage with confidence.

Both Algeria and Iraq now advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face new opponents in knockout matches filled with high pressure and excitement. Fans from both countries are hoping for strong performances as the teams continue their journey in the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup.
