Malaysian health authorities have warned about a sharp rise in dengue fever cases in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding parts of the Klang Valley. Officials say the increase has raised concerns about the spread of the mosquito-borne disease to additional areas.
The Malaysian Ministry of Health said the early increase was particularly concentrated in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as dengue infections continue to increase in several parts of the country.
According to the Health Ministry, Malaysia has recorded 58,079 dengue cases since the beginning of August. This represents a 56.2 percent increase compared with the same period in 2025.
The ministry also reported 55 deaths associated with complications from dengue fever, highlighting the continuing public health concerns linked to the rise in infections.
The increase has been particularly significant in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, where reported dengue cases have risen by 106 percent compared with the same period last year.
Selangor has also experienced a substantial increase, with cases reportedly rising by 61 percent. The three areas are part of the wider Klang Valley region, where authorities have identified a major concentration of cases.
Malaysian health authorities said they have introduced intensive and targeted measures to control the spread of dengue. These efforts include earlier detection of cases and stronger mosquito-vector control activities.
The ministry said some of these measures are beginning to produce positive results. However, officials warned that the overall risk remains high and that the national situation continues to be concerning.
Dengue fever is transmitted primarily through infected mosquitoes and can spread rapidly when mosquito populations increase. Rising cases in one region can also increase concerns about transmission in nearby communities.
Authorities are therefore continuing surveillance and prevention activities while monitoring the situation in states beyond the Klang Valley.
The Health Ministry said the rise in cases is not limited to the capital region, with increasing numbers being reported in other states as well. Officials have warned that the national dengue situation remains a concern.
Health authorities are encouraging continued prevention and control efforts as they work to identify cases early and reduce mosquito transmission.
The latest figures show the scale of Malaysia's dengue challenge, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor. Although prevention measures are showing some positive results, officials say the risk of further transmission remains high.
The situation will continue to require close monitoring, early detection and mosquito-control measures to limit the spread of dengue across Malaysia.
