Qatar and Egypt have strengthened their bilateral relations by signing four agreements covering customs cooperation, regulatory affairs, development and health. The agreements were announced during the seventh session of the Qatar-Egypt Joint Higher Committee in El Alamein, Egypt.
Qatar announced support for the establishment of the HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Hospital in Sohag. Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani said he hopes the project will bring a major improvement to healthcare services in the Egyptian governorate.
The two countries also discussed ways to increase trade and commercial exchanges. Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said both sides agreed to expand partnerships between their business communities and prepare for the third Egyptian-Qatari Investment Forum. Discussions also included creating a joint council for businessmen from both countries.
Qatar and Egypt reviewed cooperation in traditional and renewable energy as well as logistical corridors for energy transportation and storage. Officials stressed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and respecting international maritime law, particularly amid regional security concerns affecting important shipping routes.
Regional developments were a major part of the discussions, particularly the situation in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories. Qatar and Egypt, alongside Türkiye, have been involved in diplomatic efforts related to a proposed peace roadmap. Officials called for implementation of commitments involving humanitarian assistance, infrastructure recovery and arrangements for Gaza.
The two countries also discussed the situations in Sudan and Libya and emphasized political solutions, national unity and territorial integrity. Qatar said it would continue working with Egypt and other regional partners to support diplomatic solutions and reduce military escalation.
Qatar and Egypt also addressed security concerns involving the Gulf region and major maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb. Egyptian officials reaffirmed solidarity with Qatar and Gulf states and called for continued diplomatic efforts to end regional military escalation and reach sustainable agreements.
Both sides described their relationship as deep-rooted and emphasized continued consultation and coordination. The next session of the Qatar-Egypt Joint Higher Committee is expected to be held in Doha, with both governments looking to expand cooperation in investment, healthcare, energy, trade and regional diplomacy.
