Man United's Amorim Discusses Mainoo and Zirkzee's Transfer Aspirations

Man United's Amorim Discusses Mainoo and Zirkzee's Transfer Aspirations

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has addressed the potential January transfers of Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee. He expressed understanding of their wish for increased playing time, yet emphasized that the club's needs take precedence.

This season, both Mainoo and Zirkzee have faced significant challenges on the pitch. Zirkzee, a forward from the Netherlands, has only logged 82 minutes in the Premier League, while English midfielder Mainoo has managed just 138 minutes since the start of the season. Both players have yet to start a match in the top division, hindering their chances to catch the eye of national team selectors.

Reports suggest that both players are mulling over a transfer before January. They are eager to secure more consistent playing time ahead of the 2026 World Cup taking place in North America from June 11 to July 19. With the tournament looming, a switch in clubs could enhance their prospects for selection.

During a press conference ahead of Manchester United's matchup against Everton, Amorim acknowledged the players' situations, saying, “I was a football player. I understand everything and want to support my players fully.” He voiced empathy for their frustrations, particularly with the World Cup approaching, noting the significance it holds.

Nevertheless, Amorim reiterated the importance of prioritizing the club's needs. “Manchester United comes first. If I can assist both the club and the players, I'll be pleased. But I must focus on the team. The club's welfare is paramount,” he stated.

Despite their limited opportunities, there may be a chance for Mainoo and Zirkzee to step into more significant roles in the near future. With Benjamin Sesko sidelined and Bryan Mbeumo along with Amad Diallo expected to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations next month, the duo might find more avenues to showcase their skills.

Amorim's statements reveal that he recognizes the players' aspirations, but any potential transfers must align with Manchester United's objectives. He underscored that while individual goals are respected, the club's performance and results remain the priority, although he continues to support his players' ambitions.

Mainoo and Zirkzee, both promising talents, need regular play to develop. A move in January could solidify their places in their national teams; however, the manager's perspective indicates that careful consideration will balance personal aspirations with club responsibilities.

Fans of Manchester United are keenly watching to see if these players will enjoy increased playing time in upcoming fixtures, with the January transfer window potentially presenting new opportunities. Still, Amorim's insights signal that any decision will be made with the club’s long-term vision in sight.
