Mandhira Kapur Discusses Sunjay's Divorce and Family Legal Tensions

Mandhira Kapur Discusses Sunjay's Divorce and Family Legal Tensions

Post by : Meena Hassan

Mandhira Kapur, sister of the deceased businessman Sunjay Kapur, has publicly addressed her brother's divorce from Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, shedding light on the ongoing family controversies related to his estate. Married in 2003, Sunjay and Karisma separated in 2016, subsequently leaving two children behind. In 2017, Sunjay remarried Priya Sachdev, with whom he has a son.

During a revealing podcast, Mandhira tackled accusations that Sunjay mistreated Karisma during their marriage. She vehemently dismissed such allegations, stating, “He didn’t treat Lolo poorly. Their divorce was tough, like many are. It's wrong to blame children or family members. It’s easy to cast blame, but standing up for what is right takes true strength.” She noted that while divorces are hostile, spreading unfounded rumors is inherently damaging.

Mandhira also conveyed her feelings regarding Sunjay's second marriage, stating, “I pushed my father to allow Sunjay to marry Priya, believing it would bring him joy. What she exhibited before they wed has altered dramatically. I regret having trusted that.” Her comments suggest existing rifts within the family, particularly concerning the late businessman's legacy.

Adding complexity to the narrative is a legal dispute over Sunjay Kapur’s estate. Karisma Kapoor's children, Samaira and Kiaan, have lodged a petition with the Delhi High Court that disputes the will presented by Priya Kapur, alleging its forgery to exclude them from their father’s inheritance. The court has notified Priya and the will's executor, Shradha Suri Marwah, with the next hearing set for December 16. Priya's team argues that minor typographical errors do not invalidate the will, while Karisma’s children contest the legitimacy of the signature, escalating tensions.

This ongoing conflict, coupled with Mandhira Kapur’s claims, has thrust Sunjay Kapur’s personal affairs back into the limelight. It underscores the emotional turmoil inherent in family disputes over inheritances, particularly after the loss of a prominent figure. Experts note that such legal battles can endure for years, especially when they involve children and remarriages.

As the legal proceedings progress, the Kapur family remains under intense public and media scrutiny, with many awaiting the unfolding of both legal and personal matters. Mandhira’s remarks not only protect her brother’s image but also shed light on the private tribulations faced by one of Bollywood’s most examined families.
