Masdar City Free Zone Expands Globally with China Office Launch

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Masdar City Free Zone (MCFZ) has taken a major step by opening its first representative office in China, strengthening Abu Dhabi’s role as a global hub for innovation and sustainable development. This expansion is part of MCFZ’s vision to connect global technology ecosystems and support the UAE’s Falcon Economy.

In partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Masdar City signed key memorandums of understanding during a high-profile UAE–China business roadshow in Suzhou and Beijing. These agreements aim to enhance cooperation in economic growth, sustainable development, and technology exchange between the UAE and China.

Masdar City Free Zone is home to over 2,000 companies from more than 90 countries, making it a recognized hub for sustainable growth, clean technology, and innovation. It focuses on sectors such as artificial intelligence, life sciences, agritech, smart mobility, space technology, and renewable energy. The new China office will attract foreign investment, encourage technology transfer, and create opportunities for collaboration between UAE and Chinese businesses.

The inauguration of the Masdar City China office in Suzhou Industrial Park was the highlight of the week-long roadshow. The event brought together global companies, investors, government officials, and industry leaders in AI, robotics, biotech, and sustainable mobility.

Through the new office, Masdar City will work closely with Suzhou Industrial Park to promote trade, investment, and innovation, particularly in renewable energy and sustainable technology. This partnership establishes a direct link between two major innovation hubs, fostering knowledge exchange and business support for companies entering Abu Dhabi.

The office will be managed by Suzhou Yingdi Consultants Co. Ltd, which will guide Chinese companies on setting up operations in Masdar City. Beijing Zhongguancun Science City Innovation Development Co. Ltd will collaborate with Masdar City to develop tailored packages for Chinese startups, supporting entrepreneurship, networking, and marketing in the UAE. This initiative links Masdar City’s clusters with Beijing’s technology ecosystem, allowing cross-border partnerships in AI, biotechnology, clean technology, and smart city solutions.

The agreements position Masdar City Free Zone as a gateway for Chinese companies to enter the Middle East and provide UAE-based firms access to China’s technology and industrial sectors. They also strengthen Abu Dhabi’s sustainable economic diversification and environmental goals.

Dr. Mohamed Al Breiki, Executive Director of Free Zone and Sustainable Development at Masdar City, said, “Masdar City’s expansion into China is a new chapter in connecting global innovation ecosystems. Partnering with leading Chinese institutions creates pathways for technology exchange, investment, and sustainable growth, benefiting both nations. This step also supports the UAE’s Falcon Economy vision.”

With this move, Masdar City Free Zone reinforces its role as a global leader in innovation, sustainability, and economic collaboration, offering new opportunities for businesses and supporting the UAE’s mission to be a hub for advanced technologies worldwide.
