In an exhilarating overtime clash, the Philadelphia 76ers triumphed with a score of 123-114 against the Milwaukee Bucks, driven by an outstanding performance from Tyrese Maxey, who hit a career-high 54 points. Despite the absence of stars Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo, both teams delivered a thrilling spectacle.
The pivotal moment arrived early in overtime when Justin Edwards nailed a three-pointer just 40 seconds in, granting the 76ers a lead they would maintain. Edwards had already showcased his shooting skill during the game, but this shot proved crucial for Philadelphia’s momentum.
In a critical late-game moment, Edwards secured a significant offensive rebound after a missed 76ers free throw, allowing Quentin Grimes to hit both of his free throws. Grimes then extended the lead with a critical three-pointer as the clock wound down.
Maxey's performance stood out, achieving a record 54 points with an efficient shooting display consisting of 18 successful field goals, including six from beyond the arc. He sealed the game by sinking four clutch free throws in the final seconds, while also contributing nine assists and five rebounds.
The game was closely contested, especially in the fourth quarter where the Bucks briefly led 83-77. The 76ers quickly countered, and the final encroaching minutes were marked by multiple lead changes.
Myles Turner’s timely three-pointer placed Milwaukee ahead late in regulation, but Maxey’s composure led to two made free throws that sent the game into overtime after a missed chance from the Bucks.
Ryan Rollins shone for the Bucks with a notable 32 points and 14 assists. Other key performances included Myles Turner’s double-double and contributions from Bobby Portis, Kyle Kuzma, and Gary Trent Jr. Yet, the Bucks faced their third consecutive loss.
For the 76ers, Paul George, in only his second outing this season, scored 21 points, while Quentin Grimes contributed 14 points. VJ Edgecombe also impressed with a double-double, marking a strong showing from the team.
This victory moved the 76ers to 2-0 in overtime games this season. Their effective teamwork and strategic plays, especially from Maxey, Edwards, and Grimes, showcased a resilient effort in the absence of their star player.
