Mets Bolster Pitching Lineup with Peralta and Myers Acquisition

In a significant move, the New York Mets have fortified their pitching lineup by securing ace Freddy Peralta and right-hander Tobias Myers from the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers have received top prospects Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams, both recognized in MLB’s top 100 prospects by Baseball America, in return.

Freddy Peralta, 29, enjoyed a stellar 2025 season, finishing with a 17-6 win-loss record, a 2.70 ERA, and 204 strikeouts over 176⅔ innings. He topped the National League in victories and earned his second All-Star nod. Meanwhile, Tobias Myers, 27, ended last season with a 1-2 record and a 3.55 ERA in 22 outings, demonstrating his flexibility as both a starter and a reliever.

David Stearns, Mets president of baseball operations, commented, “Acquiring Freddy brings an established starter to lead our rotation. Tobias’ ability to pitch in different roles adds depth to our strategy.”

This trade follows the Mets' earlier signings of free agent Bo Bichette and center fielder Luis Robert Jr., reflecting their proactive efforts to enhance the team’s performance.

On the other hand, the Brewers, who have a history of trading star pitchers in their contract year, will lean on two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff, rookie Jacob Misiorowski, along with the newly acquired Sproat and Williams for their rotation. President Matt Arnold remarked, “Freddy was a valued player for us. These trades are challenging but designed to be mutually beneficial.”

Peralta, who has maintained a clean injury record since 2022, will command $8 million this season and could be a free agent after the World Series. Myers will vie for a significant role within the Mets’ rotation or bullpen.

Following this transaction, the Mets' rotation now includes Freddy Peralta, Nolan McLean, Clay Holmes, David Peterson, Sean Manaea, and Kodai Senga. To accommodate these changes, the Mets have designated right-hander Cooper Criswell for assignment.

This trade showcases the Mets' ambition this offseason as they aim to enhance their pitching staff and contend effectively in 2026.
