Eight of the world’s top male tennis players will compete for a $1 million prize pool at the MGM Slam in Las Vegas next year. The exhibition event, scheduled for March, will use a fast 10-point tiebreak knockout format to create exciting and quick matches. Taylor Fritz, the highest-ranked American and currently world number six, will lead the lineup. Fellow American Tommy Paul, ranked 20th in the world, will also take part.
Other players confirmed for the event include Casper Ruud from Norway, Nick Kyrgios from Australia, Joao Fonseca from Brazil, Gael Monfils from France, Lorenzo Musetti from Italy and Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan. The MGM Slam is entering its third year and has already hosted several big moments, including a match between Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka last year and one of Rafael Nadal’s final appearances before retirement.
This event comes at a time when tennis is under criticism for its busy and exhausting schedule. Earlier in March, the Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA) filed a lawsuit against major tennis bodies such as the ATP and WTA, calling the current calendar too demanding. Still, exhibition matches continue to be planned around the world.
In January, world number one Jannik Sinner and world number two Carlos Alcaraz, who together have won nine of the last ten Grand Slams, will face each other in South Korea. The MGM Slam has a strong history of featuring famous names, including Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Maria Sharapova and Nadal. The upcoming edition is expected to draw major attention as fans look forward to thrilling matches involving Taylor Fritz, MGM Slam, tennis exhibition, tiebreak format, and elite players.
