Ministry Supports Yanbu Fishermen With Boats Tools And Training

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Yanbu, working with the Reef National Foundation, has provided 65 marine engines to fishermen in the governorate. Along with these engines, fishermen also received 1,234 tools and equipment to help them properly equip their boats for fishing.

This delivery is part of the ministry’s support programs for small-scale fishermen. The goal is to strengthen the fisheries sector, make fishing safer and more productive, and ensure marine resources are protected for the future. By providing modern tools and engines, fishermen can catch fish more efficiently and safely. This also helps improve their income and supports the local economy.

Training Programs To Improve Skills And Efficiency

In addition to providing tools and engines, the ministry has organized training programs for fishermen. Around 580 fishermen participated in these programs to improve their skills and efficiency in fishing.

The training covers all parts of the fishing process, including catching fish, handling them safely, and preparing them for sale. The focus is on producing high-quality fish so that the products reaching consumers are safe and fresh.

By learning modern techniques and sustainable methods, fishermen can increase productivity, reduce waste, and ensure that fishing is both profitable and responsible. This approach also helps them understand how to protect marine life while earning a living.

Previous Support With Boats And Refrigeration

Before delivering engines and tools, the ministry had already helped fishermen with other resources. They provided 17 preservation and refrigeration vehicles, which help fishermen keep their catch fresh for longer. This ensures that fish sold in local markets remain of high quality.

Additionally, 40 fishing boats were provided under the localization of the fishing profession initiative. This program encourages local people to pursue fishing as a professional career. By providing boats and training, the ministry supports the development of local expertise and the sustainability of the fishing profession.

The boats have been successful in increasing fishermen’s earnings. Sales from these boats reached more than SAR 697,000 through over 2,700 fishing trips. This shows that local fishermen can earn a stable income while using modern tools and techniques.

Digital Applications Make Support Easy

Fishermen in Yanbu can also use the Saudi Reef electronic application system. Through this system, they can apply for support programs and track their requests. So far, 2,548 electronic applications have been submitted under the Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program.

This digital system makes it easier for fishermen to access support, whether it is for boats, tools, engines, or training. It also allows the ministry to organize resources efficiently and reach more people who need assistance. By using technology, the ministry ensures that help reaches the right people at the right time.

Sustainability And Marine Protection

The ministry’s programs are not only about improving income. They are also designed to protect marine resources. By providing modern boats, tools, and training, fishermen are encouraged to fish responsibly and avoid overfishing.

The programs teach sustainable fishing methods, which help maintain fish populations and protect the marine environment. Protecting the seas is important for the economy and for future generations of fishermen. Sustainable practices ensure that fishing can continue in the long term without harming the ecosystem.

Benefits For Local Communities

The support programs have a positive impact on local communities. Fishermen now have better income opportunities, modern tools, and safer boats. Their families benefit from a stable and reliable income, and local markets receive high-quality fish.

The training programs also provide new skills, which can be used for future jobs or business opportunities. By investing in tools, boats, and education, the ministry ensures that fishing in Yanbu is professional, efficient, and sustainable. Communities gain from both economic growth and environmental protection.

Economic Growth And Rural Development

The support programs contribute not only to individual fishermen but also to broader economic growth. By increasing productivity, improving product quality, and using sustainable methods, Yanbu’s fisheries sector contributes to the regional and national economy.

The programs are also part of a larger rural development strategy, helping small-scale fishermen improve their livelihoods. This reduces unemployment and encourages young people to choose fishing as a profession, which preserves local traditions while modernizing the sector.

Future Plans For Expansion

The ministry plans to expand these support programs in the coming years. More fishermen will receive boats, engines, tools, and training. There are also plans to introduce modern technologies, such as digital tracking systems for fishing boats and advanced refrigeration methods.

These future initiatives aim to strengthen the fisheries sector further, support sustainable practices, and provide fishermen with modern skills. The ministry’s long-term goal is to create a thriving, professional, and sustainable fishing industry that benefits both people and the environment.

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, in partnership with Reef National Foundation, has made significant efforts to support fishermen in Yanbu. By providing boats, engines, tools, and training, the ministry helps fishermen increase their income, improve efficiency, and maintain high-quality fish.

The programs also encourage sustainable practices, protect marine resources, and benefit local communities and the economy. Through training, digital applications, and professional support, fishermen are empowered to work safely and responsibly.

These initiatives demonstrate the ministry’s commitment to long-term sustainability, rural development, and professional growth in the fisheries sector. By continuing and expanding these programs, Yanbu’s fishing industry is set to grow stronger and more sustainable for years to come.
