Mona Singh Discusses OTT Freedom: From Jassi to Diverse Roles

Post by : Meena Hassan

Mona Singh stands out among actors making a transition from television to OTT platforms and films, breaking free from conventional TV narratives. She recently expressed that OTT enables actors to inhabit more intricate and layered roles without the restrictions common in television.

Mona stated, “Shows on streaming platforms often explore themes that are impossible to present on TV due to censorship. As actors, we want to convey complex characters, which isn't feasible in the traditional space. I’m thrilled that audiences are embracing OTT. It’s a phenomenal time for performers, writers, and creatives - so many untold stories and ample opportunities await.”

Her acting journey began with the show Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin in 2003. Following a decade in various formats – including serials, variety shows, and reality hosting – she ventured into films and web series. Reflecting on her path, Mona remarked, “Transitioning from Jassi to portraying a cop in the web series Mistry, participating in Made in Heaven season 2, and joining The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, my experience has been remarkable. Arriving in Mumbai without contacts made every achievement feel like a gift. I’m always seeking challenges, and I feel fortunate to embrace exceptional OTT opportunities now.”

Recently, she graced the screen in Aryan Khan’s The Ba**ds of Bollywood* on Netflix. Upcoming, she will star in Border 2 alongside Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, set to hit theaters on January 25 for the Republic Day weekend.
